About Us

John J. Dwyer, Jr. was first licensed to practice law in 1981 and he remains licensed to practice in State and Federal Courts in Illinois. John graduated from John Marshall Law School in 1981 where he served on the Editorial Board for the John Marshall Law Review. John began his career litigating product liability claims involving catastrophic fire losses against defendants including Honeywell, Northern Illinois Gas and Lear Siegler. The scope of John's practice expanded to include the litigation of a wide range of personal injury claims including cases involving automobile negligence, premises liability and medical malpractice. He has litigated over 30 lawsuits to verdict and resolved cases of significant complexity and value through mediation and arbitration.

John founded The Law Offices of John J. Dwyer, Jr. in 1989. The practice was limited to the representation of victims of personal injury. Over 97% of the cases handled by the firm have resulted in verdicts or settlements for our clients. The success of the firm may be attributed to thorough case evaluation, attention to detail and knowledge of the medical conditions our clients suffer. John's work as an honest advocate for victims of personal injury continues to win him the respect of his colleagues and opponents. He has also remained involved in the legal community as a member of the Illinois Trial Lawyer's Association and recently served as co-editor of the Automobile Litigation Book, 2002 Edition, published by the Illinois Trial Lawyer's Association. The Automobile Litigation Book is a resource for personal injury lawyers which covers many of the issues such attorneys must address when handling automobile negligence claims.

By 1996 the firm had grown and John hired Daniel McDevitt as his associate. Dan was first licensed to practice law in 1996 in both State and Federal Courts in Illinois. Dan graduated from DePaul University Law School and limits his practice to representing plaintiffs who have suffered personal injury and wrongful death. Dan is a member of the Illinois Trial Lawyer's Association and serves on the Medical Negligence Committee. He is also a member of the Association of Trial Lawyer's of America and Illinois State Bar Association. Dan has a particular interest in federal regulation of the trucking industry and its impact on trucking litigation as well as the manner in which the interest of a health or auto insurer may be reduced to maximize the client's recovery. Dan has tried cases to verdict involving automobile negligence, trucking negligence and medical malpractice and has resolved a variety of cases through mediation and arbitration including cases involving premises liability.

The size of our firm and careful case selection allows us to devote the personal attention, focus and resources our clients deserve. At some larger firms, your case is assigned to an associate, rather than the lawyer you first met and hired, and your calls may be handled exclusively by a paralegal until the time of trial. We handle all client calls personally and are involved in the litigation of every aspect of your claim. The lawyers you first meet and hire will handle every aspect of your claim from presenting your claim to an insurer, filing suit, conducting discovery and taking the case to trial. That is why our clients send their family and friends; we make the experience as manageable as possible.

What separates us from the other personal injury lawyers? We research and understand the medical conditions our clients suffer. Our clients have often suffered serious injury and required extensive medical care. We understand that it is imperative that the medical condition and treatment our clients receive be understood by their lawyer. Without an understanding of the medicine, the lawyer cannot convey the severity and value of a claim to a claims adjuster or jury. The lawyer who understands the medicine can also effectively present a medical witness and cross examine an expert retained by the defendant's insurer. We have assembled a library of respected medical texts that address injuries to the spine, brain, knee, shoulder, wrist and ankle. You want a lawyer who has and will invest the time to understand your medical condition so that the severity of the injury suffered may be explained and understood. That is a service we provide our clients.

We welcome any inquiry regarding a potential personal injury claim. Free consultations are available by phone or in person. If you have questions, please contact us and let us discuss how our firm may be able to help.
